Accidents Happen
Last Thursday, the 16th of March, I experienced my first car accident. No one was harmed in the accident but my little hybrid wasn't as fortunate. I luckily wasn't T-boned or involved in a front-end collision. It was merely a rear-end collision during rush hour.
Earlier that day I had two job interviews. One with a company named Allegiance that turned out to be as sketchy as the online reviews from other interviewees had claimed it to be. The company was an upstart marketing firm that worked with entertainment and sports companies selling discounted tickets for events. I would have had to act as a salesmen trying to find new clients for the company and my pay would be based on solely on my numbers. Definitely not a job that would make me feel financially safe.
My other interview was with Aramark. I applied to be a Route Sales Representative for their Refreshments division delivering coffee, paper products and other break room related goods to businesses in the Seattle metro area. The pay is solid considering the work and the schedule is M-F. The fact I will go from a manager within the company down to an hourly delivery driver seems like the step in the wrong direction but unless Aramark can offer me a manager position, I need to make money somehow.
The accident occurred on my way home from these interviews. Traffic was stop and go at the time. I was coming to a stop when all the sudden a Dodge Ram pickup hit me from behind. They hit me two times which led me to believe that more than one car was part of the accident. My biggest concern was being pushed into the car in front of me which did not happen thankfully. Turns out the only other car involved was the truck. I was probably hit at 15-20 mph and, though it startled me, it was not as intense of an experience as it could have been. I have never been in an accident so I didn't know what to do.
Luckily, the driver pulled into the median with me and we were able to exchange information and take pictures of the damage. He admitted to missing the brake pedal and being at fault for the accident. Turns out the damage to my car is estimated at $4,500 and will take nine days to complete. I am happy I will get my car back but it's incredibly inconvenient to not have a car for the time being. The one positive take-away from this experience is that I did in fact get a job offer from Aramark so my trip to Seattle wasn't made in vain.
